Shillong, June 8, 2022(MMP):Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has said that no illegal coke plants in the state have been shut down and only those with papers in order are now functioning. Sangma said the Government is moving towards balancing the needs of the economy and ecology and all guidelines are set to attain that goal. The Chief Minister expressed hope that technological advancements will enable industries to function in an environmentally friendly manner while ensuring growth to the economy and jobs for the people of the state.

Shillong, June 8, 2022(MMP):Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma expressed gratitude and pride over the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) award for the Meghalaya Enterprise Architecture (MeghEA). He said that it was a competition of more than 300 participants where 90 countries participated in 10 to 12 different categories.
Meghalaya contested with Australia, China, Argentina, and Tanzania. Meghalaya Enterprise Architecture (MeghEA) is the only project from India to win the winner award this year. MeghEA project is being implemented by the Planning Department of the Meghalaya government and it has several components such as government to citizen or business services, government to employee services, and government to government services. At the United Nations World Summit on the Information Society Forum 2022, an initiative by the Meghalaya government has received the best project award in the category of “the role of governments in the promotion of ICTs for development”. The initiative was named Meghalaya Enterprise Architecture.Shedding light on the Meghalaya Enterprise Architecture, he said that it is a connection of all government works trying to connect each one of them through technology and software creations. Explaining further the use of this technology ensures that the time taken to prepare files and paperwork, and transfer paperwork from one department to the other, is now a seamless movement of the files. No paperwork is involved in it because all proposals are done online. It has really cut down the time from 90 days to 2 days, explained the Chief Minister.
Environment week celebrations concluded; CM lauds role of school students in celebration
Shillong, June 8, 2022(MMP):Meghalaya Government organised a series of environmental activities throughout the week to commemorate the Meghalaya Environment Week launched by the government for the year 2022. Appreciating the active participation of school students in the various competitions organised as part of the celebration, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma while attending the conclusion of the World Environment week emphasized that the knowledge and awareness expressed by the school students through various mediums is vital as they are the future. Students in large numbers participated in various activities and demonstrated their creativity by making various items through disposable things. During the function, the Chief Minister along with other dignitaries launched the Forest Management Plan, which is the State’s action plan for the forests in line with various interventions to preserve the ecosystem. He also presented the NRM Awards to villages that have performed exceptionally well in Natural Resource Management.
Landslide has occurred near the Sonapur Tunnel along NH-6 debris remove & road opened
Shillong, June 8, 2022(MMP):Due to the heavy rainfall in East Jaintia Hills District for the past many days, a major landslide has occurred near the Sonapur Tunnel along NH-6. As per reports there has been no report of any injuries or damages to any vehicles however the road near the tunnel has been completely blocked. Police are reaching out to more 300 stranded vehicles by providing them with any assistance required. Efforts were made to clear the road and as per latest update, the road has been partially cleared and is open for traffic. Meanwhile, the Executive Engineer, PWD (Roads), Jowai Central Division, Jowai in a press release issued has informed that the bridge No.17/1 at Mynrud River on Ummulong –Tyrshang-Bamkamar road is restricted to light vehicles only, due to the bridge becoming weak and is unable to support heavy loaded vehicles. Hence, no heavy loaded vehicles will be allowed to ply on the mentioned bridge until further order.
World environment day celebrated in different states
Shillong, June 8, 2022(MMP):As part of the Meghalaya Environment Week 2022 Celebration Department of Forest and Environment, Social Forestry and Territorial Division South Garo Hills and the District Administration and Basin Management Authority South Garo Hills jointly organised the World Environment Day with the theme “Only one Earth” at Government Higher Secondary School Baghmara. Meanwhile in South West Garo Hills District celebrated the day along with the celebration of 50 years of Meghalaya’s Statehood with tree plantations, cultural songs and dances, traditional games and sports, musical event, etc to mark the occasion at Ampati. Deputy Commissioner, S.K. Marak led the gathering in taking the Green Pledge and also gave a short exhortation based the theme “Only One Earth”. While in East Khasi Hill district, the Hindi Catholic Community (HCC), under the Mary Help of Christians Parish, Shillong, joined the State Government in celebrating “The Meghalaya Environment Week” at Pastoral Center, Shillong. Around 200 community members were present and planted number of fruit trees. On the other hand blood donation camp was organized yesterday by Meghalaya Basin Management Agency (MBMA) office in collaboration with the Regional Blood Centre Pasture institute as part of the Meghalaya Environment Week 2022. Nature Walk cum Cleaning Drive was also organized at Khlaw Malki at Lawsohtun by MBMA.
