Thirteen shops of Lyngngam Nongtrai Multipurpose Cooperative Society reduced to ashes by fire in West Khasi Hills District

 Shillong, May 9, 2022(MMP): Thirteen shops of Lyngngam Nongtrai Multipurpose Cooperative Society in West Khasi Hills District were reduced to ashes by fire. Finance Secretary of the Society Spingshon Mawlieh informed that the incident took place at around 12 noon, when nobody was there and unexpectedly the shops were gutted into fire. The fire was doused by the timely intervention of the fire tender services from Mawshynrut Civil Sub Division. The estimated loss is around Rs.20 lakh.

Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation & Empowerment of Divyangjan to be inaugurated in Shillong

 Shillong, May 9, 2022(MMP): Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment of India Dr. Virendra Kumar, will be virtually inaugurating the Services of Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) CRC-Shillong at a programme to be held on 17th May 2022 at U Soso Tham Auditorium, State Central Library, Shillong. The Centre is under the Administrative control of NIEPMD-Chennai, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India. The CRC is located at Ground Floor, Montfort Building, Dhankheti, Shillong, Meghalaya.

 FASTOM resumes agitation; reiterates demand to enhance salary

  Shillong, May 9, 2022(MMP): The Federation of All School Teachers of Meghalaya (FASTOM) today resumed their agitation by staging a protest in front of the Secretariat demanding the MDA Government to immediately enhance their salary and upgrade their services to a deficit system. The protestors demanded an audience with the Chief Minister in their protest today. Although the state Government had expressed its inability to upgrade the Adhoc teachers to a deficit pattern, it has assured enhancement of salaries. Earlier, FASTOM had relaxed their on-going agitation from 2 May to 8 May 2022 after the association received a positive response from the education department.

IIM Shillongorganises 2-Day long Roundtable Discussion on ‘Developing a Framework for Seamless Tourist Movements to North Eastern States of India’

Shillong, May 9, 2022(MMP): The Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis of IIM Shillong, supported by the North Eastern Council, Govt. of India is conducting a 2-Day long Roundtable Discussion on ‘Developing a Framework for Seamless Tourist Movements to North Eastern States of India’, on May 9 and May 10, 2022, the inaugural ceremony of which was held today at IIM Shillong’s,Umsawli Campus. The Roundtable Discussion was part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, celebrating 75 years of India’s independence.

       The programme was formally inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by K. Moses Chalai, IAS, Secretary, the North Eastern Council, Govt. of India, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, in the presence of Prof DP Goyal, Director IIM Shillong, Dr. Sanjeev K Ningombam, Centre Coordinator of APJ Abdul Kalam Centre and other dignitaries.

      MosesChalai, in his address pointed out the imbalance between infrastructural development and the economic surplus in terms of jobs and income.  He said, “Income generation continues to be a huge area of concern despite massive infrastructural development and tourism can offer the potential for income generation in Northeastern states”.

      He also mentioned the flourishing industry of ‘Off-road’ tourism which has immense potential in the North Eastern Region and could be exploited for attracting tourists.

      Prof. DP Goyal, Director IIM Shillong in his address emphasized on the need to work at the grassroots to understand the challenges involved in developing a framework for seamless tourist movement. Prof. Goyal said, “We need to have dynamic, integrated portals providing up-to-date data to help tourists travel seamlessly across the North Easter Region.
