International Day of Persons with Disabilities observes in Meghalaya

Shillong December 3 december,2021(MMP): The International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2021 was celebrated at Raj Bhavan in Shillong. Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik said that the Covid situation has given us the opportunity to understand some of the very critical issues and sufferings of the disability sector in Indian context. He also informed that India is one of the first countries to sign the mandate of United Nation Convention for Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) and adopted 21 types of disabilities to frame the Laws at central and state level.  Similar programmes was organized by the office of the District Social Welfare Officer, East Khasi Hills District in collaboration with the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority, District Legal Services Authority, District Medical & Health Officer, East Khasi Hills District and Child Development Project Office, Mawkynrew at a function held at Jongksha village under Mawkynrew C&RD Block.

           Meghalaya Social Welfare Minister Kyrmen Shylla has requested Persons with Disabilities (PWD) to obtain a Unique Identification Identity Card (UDID) and to renew disability certificate to UDID to ensure that PWDs can avail all entitlements due to them only on production of the document. Speaking at the International Day of Persons with Disabilities-North East Disability Summit, 2021 observed under the theme – leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world. He has expressed his gratitude to All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for sponsoring around 200 aids and assistive devices such as Neo motion motorcycles, crutches, Hearing aids, smart canes, smart phones, multi-sensory Educational Developmental Kits and Joystick Wheelchairs which will help persons with disabilities in the State to reduce the effect of disabilities.State Principal Secretary of Labour Department GHP Raju maintained that doctors should coordinate with the Social Welfare department and facilitate obtaining the documents for PWDs.

            He informed that the PWDs should get three important documents which is the Jan Dhan Yojana, Adhaar number and a mobile number so that they can avail the benefits from the government.The day was also observed at Umsning in Ri-Bhoi District. President of the Association of Persons with Disabilities (APD) Bluetisha Nongbet, expressed her gratitude towards those who have supported the association. She also said that during these difficult times of COVID 19, the Government and concerned authorities should provide their support for the disabled.

 Meghalaya Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui inaugurates first ever Umngot River festival at Shnongpdeng village in West Jaintia Hills district.

Shillong December 3 december,2021(MMP): Meghalaya Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui who is also the local MLA of Amalarem assembly constituency today inaugurated the first ever Umngot River festival at Shnongpdeng village, West Jaintia Hills district. The festival was organised by the Arts and Culture Department, Government of Meghalaya in collaboration with the Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Office of the SDO Amlarem (Civil) Amlarem Sub Division and Seng Samla Shnongpdeng Cultural and Sports Club.  ‘Umngot River’ as it known the cleanest river in India, the one-day festival was held with an objective to promote tourism and water sports activities. The festival includes Boat Tableau Competition, boating, water polo, Zip Lining etc. Speaking on the occassion Rymbui expressed happiness in celebration the starting of 50years Statehood and 75 years of Independence in such manner.

People are more inclined towards the Congress than other political parties in Meghalaya says Congress leader P.N. Syiem

Shillong, December 3, 2021(MMP): The spokesperson of the Congress Party and Working President of the Meghalaya Congress, P.N. Syiem today said that it is not easy for the new party to win the confidence of the voters and win elections. He was referring to the All India Trinamool Congress which is making an inroad into Meghalaya.                     In his interaction with media persons, Syiem also said that the people of Meghalaya are inclined towards the Congress party than other political parties in the state. According to him, the new party belonging to All India Trinamool Congress of West Bengal making an inroad into Meghalaya will find a lot of hardships before laying a strong foundation. Syiem made this criticism after 12 Meghalaya Congress legislators left the party and joined the All India Trinamool Congress recently.

 Arround 400 members of Young Congress in Meghalaya have left the party

Shillong, December 3, 2021(MMP): In Meghalaya, around 400 member of the Youth Congress have left the Congress party citing reasons that they have been sidelined and also for not consulting their in many of the decisions of the party. Speaking to the media, the President of the Young Congress of Mawsynram Block Congress Committee, Bana Lartang strongly criticized the Congress leadership of dissolving the twelve Block Congress Committees falling under those constituencies of the Congress Legislators who left the party and jointed the All India Trinamool Congress and also dissolving the National Students Union of India in Meghalaya. Lartang said unlike in the previous years, where membership into the party has been thoroughly criticized, Lartang said now any Dick and Harry can become a member of the Congress and membership is randomly enrolled at airports and in any of the metros of the country.     

Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress Members Resign

Shillong December 3 december,2021(MMP): National Student Union India’s (NSUI) Meghalaya unit was dissolved Neeraj Kundan the President of National Student Union India (NSUI) President has approved the proposal to dissolve the state NSUI. President Banshailang Pyngrope said that over 3000 members in the state have resigned from the congress citing lack of leadership in the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC). Additionally around 400 Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress members led by its general secretary Fernandez S Dkhar today quit Congress alleging neglect by Meghalaya Pradesh Congress committee. Stating that with the change in the leadership of the party, the youth are being sidelined.
