Meghalaya Government taking omicron threat seriously, says health minister James Sangma

Shillong December 1,2021(MMP) : Meghalaya Health Minister, James Sangma today said that the state government is very concerned about the new variant of COVID-19  Omicron and all steps and measures are in place and they are being followed up very stringently. When his attention was drawn to allegations about laxity and flouting of COVID-19 protocols in festivals and gatherings, particularly the Cherry Blossom Festival, Sangma countered the same saying that the state government has to be considerate about livelihood, economy and at the same time ensure that COVID-19 does not rampage the state. Meanwhile Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has said, no case of Omicron, the new COVID variant has been reported in any part of the country. In reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Mandaviya said that so far the new variant has been reported in 14 countries. He informed that all precautionary measures are being taken to prevent the virus from entering into India.The Health Minister informed the House that although, the COVID situation in the country is under control, the threat of the virus is still prevailing. He also reiterated the Prime Minister’s appeal of following COVID Appropriate Behavior to check the spread of COVID-19.among others.  

Deputy Commissioner Ri Bhoi District called people of district to take to get themselves vaccinated for their safety.

Shillong December 1,2021(MMP) : The Deputy Commissioner Ri Bhoi District called upon people of the district to take this opportunity to get themselves vaccinated for their safety. The Deputy Commissioner has informed that the new variant known as ‘Omicron’ has surfaced in South Africa and in some part of European countries and to take preventive measures people should be aware and cooperate with the district administration to come forward for vaccination for self-protection. She also informed that the State Government has directed al lDistricts of the State to conduct a Special Vaccination Campaign. The date of vaccination at all Polling Stations under Umling Block will be on the 6th &7th December, 202. For Polling Stations under Jirang Block will be scheduled on the 9th & 10th December 2021. For Umsning Block will be on 13th & 14th December, 2021, whereas for Bhoirymbong Block will be on 16th & 17thDecember, 2021.
