Shillong, October 11, 2021(MMP): Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma today said that the state Government will rehabilitate all those people who stay at Sweeper Colony at Mawlonghat in Shillong legally. Speaking to the media, Sangma said all those Government employees and other residents living in that area will be properly rehabilitated in Government establishment of Government’s Different Departments. The Chief Minister said that his Government will challenge the stay order in the higher courts. He also said the Government will ensure that the residents of Sweeper Colony will not be thrown out onto the streets, but will be properly accommodated.
Meghalaya High Court orders traditional heads to provide cremation grounds for people who do not have such facilities to dispose off dead bodies
Shillong, October 11, 2021(MMP): Meghalaya High Court has issued an order to the Tribal Chiefs and other traditional heads to provide cremation grounds for all those people who do not have such facilities to dispose of the dead bodies. The order was passed following litigations that came in the lower courts claiming ownership over a land located at Mawkhan Pasiar unde Hima Mylliem. Speaking to the media, RTI Activist, Desparsing Rani said the Court of Hima Mylliem and Court of Executive Magistrate in their orders were of the opinion for amicable settlement of the claim over land, as none of the parties are in possession of documents to substantiate their claim
