Webinar on “Agrobiodiversity and Ecosystem Services” organized

Shillong, July 23, 2021(MMP)A Webinar on “”Agrobiodiversity and Ecosystem Services” was jointly organized by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and Martin Luther Christian University today. The webinar served to boost the understanding of the scope of agro-biodiversity and ecosystem services as well as to highlight the need and rationale for conservation of agro-biodiversity as a means to ensure food security and address the adverse effects of climate change.

           The webinar presented an excellent platform for sharing of learnings drawn from field-based activities undertaken in States of Mizoram, Nagaland and Meghalaya which is a part of the project “Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services in Agrarian Landscapes, a global project under the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU).

Over 90 students from various departments of MLCU participate in the webinar and  discussions about the importance of agrobiodiversity and how students can take forward and work with communities to pitch these important concepts and its implications to health, nutrition, food security, environment and community development.
