Meghalaya Chief Minister expresses distress over felling of tree for road construction

Shillong, June 23, 2021(MMP): Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma today expressed distress over the felling of trees at Pomlum Sadew area in Upper Shillong for construction of the four-lane road between Umshyrpi in Upper Shillong and Tamabil on the Indo-Bangladesh border of Meghalaya. 

          The felling of trees will facilitate the construction of the four-lane National Highway by the PWD and National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd that will connect the Umshyrpi area in Upper Shillong and Tamabil, which will be subsequently be connected with Bangladesh.

          In this connection, the Chief Minister said that he has already instructed the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd to stop felling of trees, as this will affect the environment. He said alternative solutions will be found to balance and develop.

          The Additional Chief Secretary PWD who visited the site today said the scenic beauty of this place is still intact and no felling of trees will be allowed to take place further. MMP
