Eid ul-fitr will be celebrated in somber manner due Covid-19 surge

 Shillong, May 10, 2021 (MMP): The celebration of Eid ul-fitr among the Muslim community after a month-long Ramadan or fasting to express gratitude to the Almighty Allah will be done in a somber manner devoid of festivity such as shaking hands and hugging  due to sudden surge of Covid-19 cases in the state. “Taking of vaccination by each and everyone” is the message that emerged from Shillong Muslim Union.

        As the State Government is trying its best to get people vaccinated, religious and community leaders of the state have come forward in the fight against COVID. This year, EID celebration will be different from the previous years, as prayers will be performed at home to ensure safety, the Shillong Muslim Union said, adding that the devotees will not be allowed to go to Mosque or eidgahs on the occasion. The Eid which comes at the end of the 30-day long of Ramzan month will be celebrated under strict adhering of COVID-19 protocols.

Meghalaya registers five Covid-19 related deaths

      Meghalaya today registered 5 COVID-19 related deaths and 409 news positive cases. Health authorities informed that the total Covid active cases in the state is now 3062 and the total positive case reached to 20129, and the total recovery is 16834 from the virus with total death from the virus is 233 so far.

South West Garo Hills DC extends containment order

     The Deputy Commissioner South West Garo Hills Ramakrishna Chitturi has extended the containment order issued in view of COVID-19 in the district till 17th of this month. As per the order, all educational institutions, religious places and places of worship in the district will continue to remain closed while all kinds of religious congregations have also been prohibited. The order for closure of weekly markets in the entire district continues to be in place while commercial vehicles including auto-rickshaw will ply with 50% seating capacity. The interstate movement of people continues to be restricted while night curfew also continues to be in place restricting the movement of individuals from 10 pm to 5 am
