Meghalaya Government decides to put in place Containment Measures to contain corona virus

Shillong, April 28, 2021 (MMP): Meghalaya Government today took the decision to put in place the “Containment Measures” in vulnerable state capital Shillong, Jowai and Tura towns to contain the spread of Corona-virus in the state.

          Speaking to the media after the Online meeting with Deputy Commissioners chaired by Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma, Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong the Containment Measures prohibits entry and exit of vehicular movements except those of essential services. The Minister said the restriction of movements will commence from 5.0 a.m. of the 1st May, 2021 till the 5.0 a.m. of the 10th of May. He, however said that there is exception for emergency cases and that too with the permission of the Deputy Commissioners.

          Tynsong also informed that essential services will be allowed to operate, where people can purchse their essential goods within the containment area, while the non-essential services will not be allow to operate. The Minister said stern action will be taken as per provision of the law for violation of the Containment Measures. In this connection, he said all educational institutions will remain closed during this period and examinations will go on as scheduled.    

He also informed that all sporting activities will not be allowed to take place and all religious and political gatherings will not be allowed to take place. However, he added that there is exception to this, where marriage ceremonies and funerals will be allowed to take place with the permission of the Deputy Commissions including strict observance of Covid-19 protocols.    MMP
