IIT Guwahati responses positively to conduct Uranium leakage in West Khasi Hills District

Shilong, February 2, 2021 (MMP): Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong informed that IIT-Guwahati has responded positively to the state Government’s request and will soon conduct an in-depth inquiry into the allegations of leakage of Uranium effluent tank and high radiation level at Nongbah Jynrin in South West Khasi Hills. Meghalaya Government had requested NEHU and IIT, Guwahati to carry out separate studies at the site. The report of the NEHU expert committee under the chairmanship of Prof B. Myrboh had stated that the radiation levels at source and the nearby villages and habitations are within the safety levels. MMP

Meghalaya Government directs the Mining and Geology Department to start the coal auctioning process.

Shilong, February 2, 2021 (MMP): Meghalaya Government has directed the Mining and Geology Department to start the auctioning process of the 2 lakh metric tonnes of coal, which is expected to begin in a few weeks time, said Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong. Tynsong added that the Government will need to furnish all the necessary papers for the auctioning of the coal before the committee of the NGT. He said that the State government will go ahead with the open auctioning of the coal once the committee of the NGT approves the methodology and policy of the auction. MMP
