Lesser known Nongrah area in Shillong to get water tap connection in the next two years

Shillong, December 4, 2020 (MMP) : The long cherished dream of Nongrah area in Shillong will get water tap connection for its residents will be materialized within the next two years. The Water Central Scheme known as Nongrah Water Supply Scheme (Phase-1) of Rs.5,92,73,000/- was approved by Meghalaya Public Engineering (PHE) on the 31 of March 2017 followed with the execution of work. The scheme comprises the construction of Raw Water Sump at Dong Ktieh locality, a Deep Tube Well and Water Treatment Plant. The land and water sources to facilitate implementation of the scheme was generously donated by land owners of Nongrah to ease the problem of drinking water in the area. At present Nongrah is having a population of over 12,000 residents and the total demand for water is over 7.53 lakh liters per day.

       Meghalaya PHE Minister,Shamlin Malngiang along with United Democratic Party leader Jemeino Mawthoh, Headman of Nongrah, Ban Pyngrope and Nongrah residents visited the ongoing work of this water supply scheme.  

         Speaking to the media, the minister expressed the need that more labourers should be put in, so that the work could be completed within one year. He informed that the PHE Department will start the Second Phase Water Supply Scheme for Nongrah after the completion of this work.  The untreated water will be pumped from Dong Ktieh to the Water Treatment Plant located in the upper potions of Nongrah.
