Shillong, November 21, 2020: Muga Silkworm Seed Organization, Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles, Government. of India has organized Farmers’ Awareness Programme for Muga farmers at P-4 Seed Station, Mendipathar, North Garo Hills, Meghalaya with maintaining all the SOP of COVID-19. A total of 54 progressive farmers and youth from Mendipathar and Resubelpara were attended this programme.
Speaking on the occasion Sri V Kumar , Scientist-B & OIC, CSB,MSSO,P-3 Unit Rompara , Govt. of India told how sericulture can generate employment and through muga culture Central Silk Board, ,Ministry of Textiles, Govovernment of India takes a major role for conducting the various training programme for the socio economic development of this district and he also focused on how Muga Culture activities have helped to curb the violence in North Garo Hills. He was hopeful that traditionally practiced muga culture will definitely improve economic status of Garo Hills and generate new employment opportunities.
Sri Mahasankar Majumdar Scientist-B & OIC, MSSO, CSB, P 4 Unit, Mendipathar have discussed about scientific process of brushing techniques and some rearing methods. Majumdar also told that during lock down period how CSB, MSSO support their farmers, and he told that “In this time MSSO, P-4 Unit Mendipathar have purchased about 50000 seed cocoons through DBT for support their farmers. Sri Vipin Panicker, MGN Fellow, North Garo Hills District present as a Special guest and discussed the objectives of this awareness programme. Sri M Rabha, SD, Resubelpara have discussed about the field level problem and solution of Muga farming. Sri Mahasankar Majumdar Scientist-B & OIC, MSSO, CSB, P 4 Unit, Mendipathar presided over this awareness programme.
