Cattle Smuggling resurfaces along Indo-Bangladesh border

Shillong, November 20, 2020 (MMP): Cattle Smuggling in Meghalaya has re-surfaced along the Indo-Bangladesh border. The places where cattle smuggling have suddenly increased in East Khasi Hills, West Jaintia Hills and East Jaintia Hills districts of Meghalaya which shares border with Bangladesh. In order to prevent such illegal activity BSF Frontier HQ Meghalaya had formed special teams to carry out operations in these areas close to International Boundary. In a series of such operation, on Friday the Border Security Force apprehended 6 Indian Nationals near Dawki involved in cattle smuggling and seized as many as 53 cattle in different operation conducted, a truck was also seized during the drive on which the cattle were transported in contravention to Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Acts.  The preliminary questioning report of arrested persons revealed that these cattle were transported from Guwahati (Khanapara) and comprised of various cattle breed which are generally not found in North eastern state.MMP
