Meghalaya Government warns hunters of stern action against hunters in the state

Shillong, May 6, 2020 (MMP): Meghalaya Government today warned hunters of stern action. The statement made by Meghalaya Home Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui came closed on the heel of cases of poaching endangered animals like Asiatic Black Bear and barking deer. With improvement of environment due to nationwide lockdown from the 24th of March, 2020, big animals including birds have started entering into the human habitat while breaking free, when people have been forced to stay indoors, industries came to a grinding halt and vehicles were off the roads. In this connection, Rymbui while asking the people to refrain from such illegal activities and cautioned that anyone violating the Wildlife Protection Act, will be published with seven years of imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs.25,000/- (MMP)
