Meghalaya Government decides to allow mining activities

Shillong, April 2, 2020 (MMP): Meghalaya Government has decided to allow resuming of mining activities in the state in order to improve its tax collection which has been badly affected by the nationwide lockdown to prevent spread of Covid-19. Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister and Government’s spokesperson, Prestone Tynsong said these mining activities will start from the 4th    of this month and all the cement industries have asked to furnish their working plan before they are allowed to start again. The Minister said this decision was taken after a long deliberation. German based mining company, the Lafarge Holcim, which conducts limestone extraction in the East Khasi Hills District has been given the permission to start the mining activities. The Government has also decided to allow the operation of industries in West Khasi Hills, Jaintia and Garo Hills.MMP
