Meghalaya’s  Inter-State border roads sealed

Shillong, April 2, 2020 (MMP): In view of the report of rising cases of multiple people having been infected and tested positive of COVID-19 in the neighbouring state of Assam which is getting out of control and  fearing the disease may well be spill over to West Garo Hills, the District Magistrate of West Garo Hills, Ram Singh under 144 Cr.P.C. has issued prohibitory order as follows with immediate effect. All Inter-State Border whether PWD road, PMGSY, MGNEREGS, village road, public road etc will be sealed.Inter-State movement of all types of vehicles and people will be restrained except FCI Trucks, Oil Tankers, LPG Tankers, Medicine suppliers & other vehicles for which specific authority letters/permission are issued will be allowed through designated routes.All car pass and order issued to bring essential commodities mainly vegetables from Assam and Assam-Meghalaya border stands cancelled. However carrying of essential commodities like rice, dal, salt, onion, potato will be allowed via Bajengdoba-Tura route in the North and Tikrikilla route in West after strict checking by Medical staff and Police team.Inter-District movement of all types of vehicles within the state and within the district will be restricted.All vegetable distribution and lifting will now be done by iTEAM-1917.

       Among others, the District Magistrate has also adviced the Nokmas and Headmen of all villages bordering Assam to inform to all the residents of their respective villages not to cross over to neighbouring Assam for procuring of essential commodities and vegetables. They are also advice to refrain from meeting any donation agencies without the authority of the BDOs and from the District Magistrate. However, for purpose of procuring any essential commodities etc. during this lockdown period, the supplier or the vendors may contact the respective Block Development Officers, Gram Sevak/Sevikas for necessary arrangement. The District Magistrate has also advised people not to come out without wearing mask or covering their mouths with handkerchief and not to spit randomly in public places. PR
