Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma announces Sports and Music Award in the state

Shillong, January 21, 2020 (MMP): Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma today announced the implementation of Sports and Music Awards to the talented youth of the state. Speaking at the inaugural function of Meghalaya Entrepreneurship & Start-up Summit-2020 held at State Convention Centre in Shillong, Sangma said the youth of the state who have immense talent in the field of sports and music should be equally encouraged, as it is being done for the entrepreneurs. The Chief Minister said musicians of the state landed up only with providing entertainment to the people and hand holding should be extended to them too, by linking them to the music industries. Sangma, who initiated the Government’s initiative the “Chief Minister E-Champion Challenge” to promote the spirit of entrepreneurship and enterprise eco-system in Meghalaya informed that the 50 entrepreneurs have been selected for business idea. He said the top 25 entrepreneurs will be given an amount of Rs.1.0 lakh each and the next 25 entrepreneurs will be given an amount of  Rs.50,000 each.  

        The Meghalaya Entrepreneurship and Start-up Summit is a culmination of the Chief Minister’s E-Champion Challenge 2019 that was launched in August 14, 2019 by the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma with the objective of identifying and encouraging potential entrepreneurs from across the state. Launched in August 2019, the challenge has identified Meghalaya’s Top 100 Entrepreneurs who will receive incubation support and mentoring session for a period of 1 year at the PRIME hubs in Shillong & Tura which will also be inaugurated on the day of the summit. 

        Meanwhile, CEO of NITI Ayog Amitabh Kanth, said that innovations are not done by   established companies but is being done by young entrepreneurs finding solution and growing jobs and if the country wants find solution to problems and grow jobs it is important to promote young entrepreneurs. 

       He said that NITI Ayog will support the Meghalaya government  with ten incubation as there is a need to create a completely new eco-system to start up and for that  incubation is required. Dwelling upon the prospects Meghalaya holds, Kanth said that the state should focus on emerging as the centre for entrepreneurship, high value tourism and organic farming. He also assured to lend the required support financially. MMP
