Mortal remains of Archbishop Dominic Jala of Shillong Catholic Archdiocese kept at Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians for public to have a glimpse of the departed soul

Shillong, October 21, 2019 (MMP): The mortal remains of Archbishop Dominic Jala of  Shillong Catholic Archdiocese, who died along with another Indian priest in a car accident  in California in the United States of America, is kept at the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians at Laitumkhrah, Shillong for public view to have a glimpse of the departed soul till Wednesday. The body of Rev. Jala was brought to Shillong from Guwahati Airport in Assam yesterday.

       The funeral cartage of Rev. Jala was brought Guwahati Airport to Shillong at 2.30 p.m. yesterday. It was later halted at the parental house at Mawlai before it was taken to Nazareth Hospital. A large number of faithful and clergy thronged the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians and clergy thronged around the coffin to have a glimpse of the departed soul, while singing of devotional hymns and fervent prayers are going for the deceased. People from different walks of life who entered the Cathedral decked with memorable banners and photographs of Rev. Archbishop Most Rev. Dominic Jala burst out into tears to recollect the simplicity and sincerity of the ecclesiastical head and leader of Shillong Catholic Archdiocese who is no more amongst.  All the Catholic schools and colleges, religious institutions will remain closed on a funeral day.                                                                          

          Meanwhile, the Meghalaya police have made traffic arrangements for the smooth conduct of the funeral. All light motor vehicles have been made at the Salesian Training Centre (reserved), Don Bosco Technical School (reserved), St. Margaret’s Compound, St. Anthony’s HS School Stadium, Malki PlayGround, Loreto Convent School, new parking lot of Loreto Convent School, Christ King College Basketball Court, St. Mary’s School, Moreao Institute of Integral Training, St. Edmunds College parking lot and St. Anthony’s College Basketball Court. Parking arrangements for heavy motor vehicles (HMV) have been made at Nongthymmai Playground (for vehicles coming from Laitkor side), Madan Iewrynghep Ground, Bucher Road (for vehicles coming from Upper Shillong side) and SRGT, Polo (for vehicles coming from G.S Road via Mawlai-Phudmuri road). All are requested to park their vehicles in the designated parking lots as per arrangements and to refrain from parking their vehicles along the roadsides. No entry points will include Dhankheti towards Don Bosco and Don Bosco towards Dhankheti. MMP
