Shillong, July 25, 2019 (MMP): Aiming at improving the SSLC pass percentage of South west Garo Hills, Deputy Commissioner Ramkumar S. reviewed the performance of class x students in the recently held half yearly examinations conducted by the school’s across the district in a meeting held with all the heads of educational institutions. Urging the meeting school review of the results of half yearly 2019 was taken up and the Deputy commissioner underscored the need to give attention to those students whose per performance is low in the half yearly exams. In this connection, the meeting decided to come up with specific management, school by school to improve the performance of students.
The meeting was attended by all the principals and heads of schools, both government and private schools from across the district and officials of education department including Block Mission Coordinators of Betasing and Zikzak Block under District Unit of SSA. Spelling out the role and responsibilities of the heads of schools, the DC called for more commitments from the respective heads of schools, saying that a good principal can bring about positive change in his/her school. He assured that he would personally follow up all the schools and try to address their problems including non-availability of teacher. He also gave specific instructions to all schools to ensure timely completion of syllabus and inform the students as well as their parents that strictness would be maintained for the upcoming SSLC exams.
The DC also sought suggestions from the schools for improving the performance of students and also sought feedback on coaching centers. It may be mentioned that students of the district in the last SSLC examinations the Deputy Commissioner in collaboration with Education department and school authorities had started 24 coaching centers across the district where coaching classes are being conducted every Saturday for class X students free of cost since May 18, this year.
