Them ïew Mawlong residents get one month’s time to prove as legal settlers

 

Shillong, June 4, 2019 (MMP): The Meghalaya Government’s High Level Committee has given another one month’s time to all those residing at Them ïew Mawlong to produce their documents to prove that they are the legal settlers there. Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister, who is also the Chairman of the High Level Committee, Prestone Tynsong told reporters that the as per the order of the Meghalaya High Court, fresh notices would be served to the residents and they should reply within one month’s from the day the notices are  issued to them. He said that since some of the residents have claimed that they have been staying in the area for nearly 200 years, there should be no difficulty for them to  produce their documents to prove that they are legal settlers. Earlier the committee has asked the Shillong Municipal Board to conduct an inventory survey of all households at Them ïew Mawlong, after which, the Board issued public notices on May 31 asking the residents to submit their documents within one month from June 3 to July 3. However Tynsong informed that till Wednesday (July 3), no one has come forward to submit their documents before the Shillong Municipal Board.MMP
