Shillong, June 22, 2019 (MM): Meghalaya Agriculture Minister, Banteidor Lyngdoh today launched the Farmers’ App, “NONGREP” at the farmers’ programme organized by Hills Farmers’ Union at the MLA Hostel’s auditorium in Shillong.
The App which will provide a host of information relating to agriculture including soil health will be manned by Sirkari Impetus Solution, Hyderabad. Speaking to the farmers at the programme, Banteidor Lyngdoh informed them that the state Government has declared black Peper and Bay Leaf as agricultural produces and broomstick is yet to be declared as an agricultural crop. Lyngdoh said that efforts are being made by the Agriculture Department to ensure that Broomstick is also declared as an agricultural crop.
He said this has been a long demand from the farmers that the Government of Meghalaya should also declare Broomstick, as one of the agricultural produce. But till date, Broomstick is still being considered as an Agro-forestry item. “Declaring Broomstick as an agricultural item, will exempt the farmers from paying tax on this particular item”, Lyngdoh said. While sympathizing with various problems faced by the farmers, Lyngdoh encouraged them to stand united in their fight against the middle men, who will always try to purchase their produces at low prices.
