FKJGP threatens to agitate if Government does not start the construction work for entry and exit points to check influx in the state

Shillong, April 17, 2019 (MMP): Close on the heels of Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma’s statement that the construction work for the entry and exit points at Ri Bhoi District would start from next month to check influx and illegal immigration, the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FJKJGP) today knocked at the Government’s door with a threat of agitation, if these check point facilities are not constructed. The FKJGP which is skeptical about the Government’s promises in today’s meeting has decided to a series of agitational programmes, if there is no sign of starting the construction work of entry and exit point across the state to check influx in the state. The FKJGP is one of the vocal NGOs that is demanding for implementation of the comprehensive mechanism to check inflow of influx and illegal immigration into the state. Speaking to the media, FKJGP leaders said their patience is running out and they have become very impatient to solve the vexed problem of influx in the state.

The FKJGP leaders have also decided to meet the Meghalaya Labour Minister on the implementation of the Inter-State Migrant Work Men (Regulation and Condition of Service) Amendment Act-2011 and to impress upon that this Act should be implement in letter and spirit to prevent Inter-State labourers from entering Meghalaya.
