East Khasi Hills District Medical and Health Officer organizes rally for students to create awareness on health and measles and vaccination campaign

Shillong, April 8, 2019 (MMP): East Khasi Hills District Medical and Health Officer to day organized a rally for students as part of the observance of the World Health Day with the objective of creating awareness about Health and Measles Vaccination Campaign at Dinam Hall in Shillong. The rally began from Dinam Hall, Jaiaw and ended at U Tirot Sing Indoor stadium Hall.

          School students belonging to various schools and Nursing Homes attended the rally carrying placards and banners to create awareness of the various of health care. The schools that participated in the programme included  Govt. Girls High School ( Jail Road ), Presbyterian High School ( Mawkhar ), Bengali Boys Higher Secondary School ( Jail Road ), Nursing Students from Civil Hospital, and Anganwadi workers. Speaking at the event the District Health Medical Officer Dr. M.R Basaiamoit stated that, “Measles is a highly infectious disease with a high infant mortality rate among children below five years of age, so it is important to spread awareness of the benefits of Health services in order to avoid the various health problems affecting the society. The Campaign aims to rapidly build up immunity for both measles and rubella by immunizing children with a single dose of MR Vaccine. MMP
