Meghalaya Home Minister today stressed on the need of responsible tourism. Inaugurating a one-day workshop on “Responsible Tourism” organised by the Department of Tourism, Government of Meghalaya in collaboration with the Outlook Group at the State Convention Centre in Shillong, Sangma said the concept of Responsible Tourism is the need of the hour, as it will create awareness among tourists and also help shape the mindset of the local populace too.
He further said the state has witnessed a phenomenal growth in tourism which has helped the economy to a great extent. He said that citizens of Meghalaya have lived in harmony with nature and it is important for visitors to understand that we need to respect nature back.The workshop was also attended by the Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh Mohammad Tanvir Monsur who said that tour operators of both Bangladesh and Meghalaya should work together for common benefit. In the technical session, discussion on topics such as road map for building responsible businesses in Meghalaya, Cherrapunjee Home stay Resort, Empower Travels and How to use free digital tools to help your business grow were deliberated by experts.
