Meghalaya Observes Martyrs’ Day

               Meghalaya along with the rest of the country today paid homage to the Father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi on his 71st death anniversary. The day is being observed as “Martyrs’ Day to commemorate all those who laid down their lives for India’s freedom. A short programme was organized by Meghalaya Secretariat to mark the occasion. In this connection, Meghalaya Chief Secretary, Y. Tsering along with high officials, police personnel and Secretariat employees laid down wreaths at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in front of the Secretariat in Shillong, as a mark of respect to the Father of the Nation. A two-minute silence was observed to mark of respect to all those who had sacrificed their lives for the country’s freedom. During the two-minute silence, the movement of vehicles around came to a grinding halt, as they were not allowed to ply to add solemnity to the occasion. MMP
