Meghalaya celebrates the 47th Statehood Day

Meghalaya celebrated its 47th statehood day today at U Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong in a grand and pompous manner with a number of cultural activities. Awards were distributed to winners of the Meghalaya Day Excellence Awards as part of the celebration which will continue till the 26th of this month.Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister made an ardent appeal to the youth of the state to learn about the history of Hill State Movement and the sacrifice made by the state’s leaders for the creation of Meghalaya through peaceful agitation. He said the state has progress considerably and his Government, the stakeholder and citizens should work together to take the state to the next level of development. He said the Government has chalked out a Special 100-Day Programme to be implemented by some of the vital departments in order to ensure tangible results are ensured this period. “The state Government is in close touch with the Centre in order to get various development schemes for the state”, Sangma said, adding that his Government would partner with other states in the country for mutual benefit and for bring development to Meghalaya.
