Former Meghalaya Congress legislator Martin M. Danggo joins National People’s Party to ensure development for his constituency.

Former Meghalaya Congress legislator, Martin M. Danggo who reigned from his party and state Assembly today formally joined the National People Party (NPP) at the party’s office in Shillong in the presence of state MPP President, Dr. W. R. Kharlukhi and party workers. Addressing media persons after he formally joined the new party, Danggo said the NPP led MDA (Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) Government  was the only Government in the state that conceded the people of Ranikor Constituency for up-gradation of  Ranikor Community and Rural Development Block into a Civil Sub-Division. Danggo said the people of Ranikor  have been demanding for Civil Sub-Division since 2005 and all the successive Governments did not respond to it. When, he along with the people of his constituency approached the state Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma for the creation of Civil Sub-Division, he immediately conceded and also inaugurated it on the 10th of July this year.

Danggo said he felt obliged to the Chief Minister and the Government for the intention to develop the backward Ranikor Assembly Constituency and this made him join the NPP. He also criticized the other aspiring candidates for the Ranikor bye-election in East Khasi Hills District of Meghalaya as anti-development. He said his opponents should have no grudge against him in changing his party because he wanted to help the poor and the downtrodden and faster development for his constituency. When asked why his opponents were attacking him and not the other candidates of other parties, Danggo said in a democratic country like India, anyone is free to criticize the public representatives.

“It is not my habit to criticise others except to persons in the Government. When asked about the fate of the bye-election, Danggo said that he was confident to come out victoriously, as his party leaders and supporters are giving him cent per cent royalty to him. “I am obliged to join the NPP, as the state Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma upgraded the Ranikor Community & Rural Development Block to a Civil Sub-Division with 48 days after he and his supporters submitted a memorandum to him”, Martin M. Danggo added.
